When you get off at Gammel Strand, you'll find yourself in the middle of an area characterised by the city's rich, interesting history and modern political life.
About 150 metres from the station you'll find Denmark's political centre, Christiansborg Palace, where the Danish Parliament, the Supreme Court and the Prime Minister's Office make many of the important decisions. Although Christiansborg is mainly known for its political function, it also combines history, art and culture in a fantastic setting that you can visit all year round.
If you follow Gammel Strand along the Slotsholm Canal, which surrounds Christiansborg, you'll find cosy cafés, pubs and eateries as far as the eye can see. The area around Gammel Strand station is also enriched with a wealth of cultural offerings, and if you head towards Højbro Plads, you're just minutes away from shopping opportunities on the pedestrian street Strøget, which runs directly through the city from Rådhuspladsen to Kongens Nytorv.
