It's the season for Christmas markets, which means it's time for apple slices, mulled wine and roasted almonds. Or is it? If you'd rather visit some small Christmas markets that are unlike any other, read on - and take the Metro right to the door.

Organic Christmas on the rooftop

ØsterGRO is a small urban farm in the centre of Østerbro, where they have created a budding vegetable garden on the roof of an old car auction house. Take the Metro to Vibenshus Runddel and visit the cosy Christmas market on 14 and 15 December from 11-16.

Here you can explore the stalls in the courtyard and take the spiral staircase up to the rooftop where you can meet their cute chickens and rabbits and feast on vegetarian food, sweet Christmas treats and homemade apple mulled wine from Gro Spiseri. Everyone is welcome and admission is free.

Take the Metro to Kongens Nytorv and join the first Christmas market at Gammelholm on 1 December - or at Litauens Plads on 8 December, Skjolds Plads on 15 December and Aksel Møllers Have on 22 December. Admission is free.
