My Copenhagen: TV host Camilla Ottesen has lived in Copenhagen all her life. She loves running along the water, SUPing in the canals and finds a special peace in the city's beautiful churches.

1. When does Copenhagen feel most like your city?

‘I'm always really proud when I have friends from abroad visit and show off the city. It's such a lovely and beautiful city with architectural gems, green parks, restaurants and cafés. But it can also just be when I'm shopping in my local supermarket. That's when I get the feeling in my stomach - God, this is where I live. For many people, Copenhagen is a destination where they go to work, go out to eat or to a concert, but I'm happy that I live here.’

2. Which place in the city do you always return to?

‘I always come back to the water. I'm drawn to it. I live in Havnegade, where I can look out over the water from my apartment. It's so beautiful and I often sit down on the quay with a cup of coffee or a newspaper. I also run a lot - and it's always along the water. There's a different calm on the waterfront, even though the city is just across the street.’

3. What is your favourite experience by the water?

‘I've participated in Christiansborg Rundt several times and it's been so cool. You can lie there in the canals and swim the crawl while looking up at historic buildings like Børsen and Christiansborg Palace. It's absolutely mesmerising. Otherwise, I recommend renting a SUP board and sailing around all the canals. I do it myself several times during the summer because it's a really cool experience to see Copenhagen from the water.’

4. What is your top tip for a unique experience in Copenhagen?

‘I really like our churches in the city. I don't go to church services, but if I'm out for a walk - alone or with my children - we often go straight into a church. There's such a nice calmness where you switch off your phone and just sit in the beautiful church rooms. It's not because I'm particularly religious, but the wild architecture and solemn atmosphere invites you to stop and just be present. My go-to church is definitely the Marmorkirken, which is just really beautiful.’

5. Which metro station is your favourite?

Kongens Nytorv is my favourite metro station. I always use it when I'm travelling to and from my home and it's super easy because I can take all the metro lines from there. Kongens Nytorv is my starting point and I always feel safe. It's a nice clear station, even though it's big.’
