Søren Le Schmidt: "It's the little hidden treasures that make the city interesting."
Søren Le Schmidt, 38, is a designer. He lives north of Copenhagen with his wife and two sons and has a showroom in Christianshavn. He’s currently preparing for his biggest fashion show yet at Kongens Have on September 16, 2026. Follow Søren at @soerenleschmidt
1. When does Copenhagen feel most like your city?
"I love Copenhagen in the summer. I really do. There’s something special about the city when you can bike around, meet up spontaneously, and feel like the city practically spills out onto the streets. I actually prefer to travel in the winter, so for me, Copenhagen is definitely a summer city. On a purely practical level, I’m a huge morning person, so Copenhagen probably feels most like my city early in the morning—when the streets are still a little empty, the coffee is hot, and the city is slowly waking up.”
On September 16, 2026, I’ll be hosting a show in Kongens Have, where all Copenhageners are welcome. I dream of creating an evening in the city where people from all walks of life come together, and where fashion, art, and culture can, for a moment, unite Copenhagen in a single shared experience.
2. What place in the city do you always return to?
"There are several places that I really love. Donda in Christianshavn, which is in the process of changing its name to CONCHA, is, in my opinion, a brilliant place. It has a very special atmosphere. I also often hold meetings at Soho House, The Union Kitchen or Bottega Barlie, if they aren't held in my showroom. And I also think that NH Collection has an absolutely amazing rooftop. It's hard not to keep coming back."

3. What's your best tip for a unique experience in Copenhagen?
"My best tip is really just to walk. Walk around the city without necessarily having a plan. Copenhagen is small enough that you can quickly end up somewhere completely different than you expected, and that’s often where the best experiences happen.
I think you should explore the city creatively and be curious. Small, almost secret bakeries have popped up both on Strandgade and down around Nyboder, where you can get a coffee and a BMO. It’s those little hidden treasures that make Copenhagen interesting.”

4. What hidden gem is almost too good to share?
"It might not be such a hidden gem anymore, but the area around Kastellet is truly one of my favorite places. It almost feels like stepping out of Copenhagen for a moment, even though you’re still right in the middle of the city.
And then there’s Bibliotekshaven—it’s a magical place. It’s peaceful, green, and tucked away from it all. A place where you can just take a breath and forget that you’re in the middle of the city.”

5. Which metro station is your favorite?
"Kongens Nytorv. In many ways, it’s the heart of Copenhagen, and the place holds a very special meaning for me. A couple of years ago, I put on a show right in the middle of Kongens Nytorv, so I have a personal connection to the square. I also love the contrast between the beautiful Copenhagen above—with its statues, historic buildings, and cobblestones—and the raw, industrial world of the Metro right below. I think that contrast is pretty brilliant."
