Did you know that?
The artwork Stella Nova is named after the supernova discovered by Thyco Brahe in 1572. You can no longer see it with the naked eye, but it will always be right in the centre of the astronomical clock because it is located right above København Syd.
At København Syd you can not only get to the rest of the city quickly, you can also get a little greeting from outer space along the way. On the end wall by the escalators, Danish artist Henrik Plenge Jakobsen has created a large astronomical clock that shows a precise image of the sun, moon and planets' current position above the station.
‘At a station you're always busy because you have to go to family, friends or work, so I wanted to create something where you can stop for a moment and get a greeting from outer space. I hope that someone will look at this watch and say: ‘No, I'll just take the next train. I need to see if this planet is moving,’ says Henrik Plenge Jakobsen.
The astronomical clock is 4.4 metres high and the planets are decorated with different metals and precious stones.

The Danish Arts Foundation has selected the five artists who have created the art for the five metro stations. The project has received financial support from the Obel Family Foundation, the Villum Foundation and the Danish Arts Foundation.
Journey through the sky
In addition to the astronomical clock, the artwork also gives you the feeling of travelling through the sky. As you descend the escalators, the background slowly changes in seven different shades from light sky blue to deep midnight blue.
Henrik Plenge Jakobsen is known for his conceptual art that pushes our usual view of things we thought we knew: the kindergarten, the circus, the HT bus - and now also the metro station. The astronomical clock will go beyond the daily routine and give passengers a little greeting from outer space before travelling further into the city.
The artworks at the five new stations on the M4 line, which in addition to København Syd includes Mozarts Plads, Havneholmen, Enghave Brygge and Sluseholmen, are each created for the individual station, but have a common theme that reflects on time and space, geology and water.
