How to get from Copenhagen Airport to Copenhagen City Centre

The best way into the city centre
The Copenhagen Airport metro station is located at Terminal 3, just a short walk from arrivals. Once you have collected your luggage, follow the signs for the metro. The station is easy to find, and ticket machines are available before you enter the platform area.
One of the biggest advantages of the metro is that you do not need to worry about traffic. Copenhagen can be busy during rush hour, especially in the morning and late afternoon, but the metro runs separately from road traffic. This makes it a reliable option if you want to get into the city without delays.
The metro also runs frequently, so you rarely have to wait long. For many visitors, this makes the arrival experience much easier. Instead of finding a taxi queue or figuring out bus routes, you can follow the signs, buy a ticket and be on your way within a few minutes.

Travel times from Copenhagen Airport to City Centre
From the airport, take the M2 metro line towards Vanløse, the yellow line. This line connects Copenhagen Airport with several central stops, including Christianshavn, Kongens Nytorv and Nørreport.
Kongens Nytorv is a useful stop if you are staying near Nyhavn, the city centre or Strøget or just need to connect with the other metro lines, while Nørreport is convenient for the Latin Quarter, the Botanical Garden and connections to trains and buses.
One ticket for all of it
Your ticket works on the metro, bus, S-train, regional train, light rail and harbour buses. What you pay depends on how many zones your journey touches, not on what you travel with. The minimum is 2 zones.

Travelling at night: The Metro runs 24/7
Landing late or catching an early morning flight is never a problem in Copenhagen. The Metro operates around the clock, 365 days a year, providing a fast and reliable connection between Copenhagen Airport and the city centre.
How often does the Metro run between the airport and city center at night?
During the night (between approx. 00:00 and 05:00), the M2 line departs every 15–20 minutes directly from Terminal 3. You can reach downtown stations like Christianshavn, Kongens Nytorv, and Nørreport in just 12–15 minutes.
If your accommodation is located in other parts of the city—such as Vesterbro, Østerbro, or Nørrebro—you can easily transfer to the M3 Cityring or M4 line at Kongens Nytorv. Both lines also run continuously through the night with frequent departures.

Copenhagen Airport Train Station: A good alternative
The train is another good way to travel from Copenhagen Airport to the city centre. Copenhagen Airport train station is also located at Terminal 3, close to the metro station. From here, trains run directly to Copenhagen Central Station.
If your hotel is near Copenhagen Central Station, the train may be the most direct option. The journey is short and simple, and you do not need to change lines. This can be convenient if you are carrying heavy luggage or travelling with children.
However, the metro is often easier if your destination is closer to Kongens Nytorv, Christianshavn, Nørreport, Frederiksberg or another metro-connected area. The best choice depends on where you are staying, but for many visitors, the metro gives the most flexible connection into the city.

Other ways to get from Copenhagen Airport to the city centre
Taxis are available outside the airport and can be a comfortable option if you prefer door-to-door transport. A taxi may be useful if you arrive late at night, have a lot of luggage or are travelling to an address that is not close to public transport. However, taxis are more expensive than public transport, and travel time can depend on traffic.
Buses also connect the airport with parts of Copenhagen, but they are usually not the easiest choice for first-time visitors heading into the city centre. The routes can take longer, and the metro or train will normally be faster and more straightforward.
For most travellers, the choice is simple: take the metro if you want an easy connection into central Copenhagen, or take the train if you are going directly to Copenhagen Central Station.

Tips before leaving the airport
Before you travel, check the address of your hotel or accommodation and find the nearest metro or train station. This will help you choose the best route from the airport.
If you arrive during rush hour, the metro is especially useful because it avoids road traffic. It can still be busy, but the journey time is usually predictable. If you are carrying large suitcases, take your time when entering and leaving the train, especially at busy stations.
It is also worth checking whether your hotel is closer to a metro station or Copenhagen Central Station. If it is near a metro stop, the metro will often be the easiest option. If it is right next to the Central Station, the train may be more direct.
