Thomas Skov: "If you have your antennas out, there are experiences everywhere"

My Copenhagen: Podcast host Thomas Skov especially loves Copenhagen in springtime, and for him the greatest experiences are in the small things - like when the sun falls just right on Carlsberg Byen or he eats a roll at his local kebab shop with his kids.

Thomas Skov is 38 years old, journalist and podcast host at Livet ifølge Emil og Thomas and lives in Vesterbro.

1. When does Copenhagen feel most like your city?

"I love Copenhagen in all seasons, but walking around Copenhagen in springtime, when everything is budding, people are growing again on the pavements and squares, and music is pouring from soundboxes and open cars - there is no better place to be than Copenhagen. But often you have to get away to see what's close by, so after being out of the city for a while, Copenhagen really feels like my city when I come back home."

I'm not saying that all adventures start at Enghave Plads, but it's close...

2. Which place in the city do you always return to?

"I love Carlsberg Byen. I live in Humleby, so I've followed the construction of Carlsberg Byen for better or worse - from piloting to full construction - and I think the life and charm of Carlsberg Byen is one of the coolest things in Copenhagen. Being able to put your head back and look at the tall buildings is an impressive sight, and the way it has succeeded in seamlessly merging old and new is something I can't recall being as successful anywhere else. When you walk up Ny Carlsberg Vej and the sun is just right, it's not just a cityscape - it's art."

3. What is your best tip for a unique experience in Copenhagen?

"I'm happy to see my children grow up in Copenhagen and try to see the city through their eyes. That's why we do what we can to use some of the places that are at children's level. We recently visited the Enigma Postal Museum and watching the kids experience what telephones looked like in the old days was fun for everyone. But sometimes the big experiences are also in the small things, so just taking the kids to Pasha Kebab and eating a roll is also a great experience. And that's what Copenhagen does: If you have your antennae out, there are experiences everywhere. So put your phone in your pocket and have a look around."

With My Copenhagen, we take you on a surprising journey through the city where famous Copenhageners and local legends share their hidden gems.

4. Which metro station is your favourite?

"I think Gammel Strand is the most beautiful. It's a music video of a metro station. But my love is the station at Enghave Plads. That's what I use when I go back and forth. It's where all journeys start for me, so it's both the feeling of going out and the feeling of returning home. I'm not saying that all adventures start at Enghave Plads, but it's close..."
