Rasmus Botoft: "There's always something new happening in Copenhagen"
Rasmus Botoft, 53, actor, currently appearing in the drama series Den gode stemning on TV 2 and hosting the DR Symphony Orchestra's New Year's Gala 2025 at the DR Concert Hall on December 30 and 31. Lives in Vesterbro.
1. You are hosting DR's traditional New Year's Gala this year. Do you have a New Year's tradition of your own?
"I think you should place small notes under the plates of all the guests, notes with small tasks that must be completed before midnight, when the year ends. It could be a special speech, someone running outside to wish a stranger a happy new year, someone singing an improvised song, or other small creative touches to the evening. And I really like the idea of everyone wearing a half mask or glasses with a nose and moustache."
2. Which place in the city do you always return to?
"I love Vesterbro, where I live and have my life, but also Amagerbro and Sundby, where I was born and raised. These are two neighborhoods I frequent all the time. Two neighborhoods that, like the rest of Copenhagen, have undergone tremendous development throughout my life. They have both really changed, but also retained their identity."
My best tip is to explore your city. Walk down streets you don't know and be surprised. There's always something new happening in Copenhagen.
3. What is your best tip for a unique experience in Copenhagen?
"I love life along the harbor. It's so unique to our city that you can swim in the harbor water. Take a bike ride or walk all the way around—preferably all the way out to the lock and through Nokken on the Amager side and the new district of Teglholmen on the Zealand side. There is always something new happening in Copenhagen, and new urban spaces are constantly emerging. Overall, my best tip is to explore your city. Walk down streets you don't know and be surprised.
With My Copenhagen, we take you on a surprising journey through the city, where famous Copenhageners and local legends share their hidden gems.
4. What hidden gem in the city is almost too good to share?
"I have some secret spots in the old Sydhavn neighborhood that I have to keep to myself. Okay, I'll reveal one secret. Don't miss out on visiting Tutten at the Mellemfortet boat club in the old Sydhavn neighborhood, where you can enjoy a genuine Copenhagen lunch in a golden setting. Afterwards, you can take a walk on Sydhavnstippen and say hello to the local alpacas. That's all I'm revealing. But see if you can find your way to Karensmindekvarteret via the small paths – it's a rather overlooked Copenhagen gem."
5. Which metro station is your favorite?
"I love Enghave Plads, and the square itself has become so beautiful again since the metro opened. It has truly become Copenhagen's coolest square, with lots of life and space for everyone. The Metro station itself is also beautiful with its red bricks. And I would also like to highlight Mozarts Plads, which has a unique work of art by Christian Schmidt Rasmussen. I love that artists have been given the opportunity to leave their mark on the stations on the M4 line. It's absolutely brilliant."
