Maj My Humaidan: "Copenhagen is both completely new to me and an old friend at the same time"
Maj My Humaidan, 42, author and lecturer. Current with the book BLØDT – a manifesto about choosing a close-knit, gentle life. Lives in Christianshavn.
1. When does Copenhagen feel most like your city?
"Copenhagen is both completely new to me and an old acquaintance. My family and I have just moved back to the city after 15 years on South Funen and Ærø. Back then, there were three of us; now there are six, and everything feels vibrant and full of possibilities. So far, Copenhagen is mostly my city when I sit on the terrace of the sublet apartment and look out over the backyard and the whitewashed orange walls, thinking, ‘This is where I live now!"
2. What place in the city do you always return to?
“I always return to Christianshavn—and this is also where we have deliberately chosen to settle. Several of our best friends live here, and the neighborhood reminds me of Ærø with its old buildings and, not least, the atmosphere where you can smile at each other and gradually get to know both the faces and the people behind them.”

3. What hidden gem is almost too good to share?
The small chocolate shop Confecture Copenhagen in Christianshavn is easy to overlook. However, make no mistake: despite the fact that there is rarely a queue, it offers a small selection of some of the best ice cream I have ever tasted. I find myself going down from the third floor a little too often to buy the “hazelnut with crunch.” And then there are their award-winning cream puffs.
I like to walk from Christianshavn over Knippelsbro all the way to Kastellet along the water. There I get everything I like: City, water, activity and ultimately the big trees, the silence and the long view.
With My Copenhagen, we take you on a surprising journey through the city where famous Copenhageners and local legends share their hidden gems.
4. What is your best tip for a unique experience in Copenhagen?
"Put your phone away, maybe even put it on airplane mode, and go for a long walk. I like to walk from Christianshavn over Knippelsbro all the way to Kastellet along the water. There I get everything I like: city, water, activity and ultimately the big trees, the silence and the long view."
5. Which metro station is your favorite?
"The Enghave Brygge metro station makes a special impression on me. The both subtle and in a way magical, almost archaeological, decoration by artist Pernille With Madsen is like a small museum in the middle of the city."
